Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
The conversation is not just about data, it's also about narratives and propaganda. The messaging and drumbeat is nonstop and has gone to wacko extremes. Donuts and free beers for getting vaxxed? A freaking million dollar lottery? Public shaming by the government and media for simply questioning? Absurdity and insanity.
Don't get lost in the data, it's a rabbit hole they want you to dive into and never come out.
Right!
I Saw a meme somewhere with the following, "if its for the health of the nation, then why aren't hey giving out insulin, and chemo for free"?
Also, why aren't there hazard waste bins everywhere for masks? There's so much useless bullshit, I think it's meant to sew chaos ...
Tell em, Busta!

Anyone who can post can also post a poll. In my opinion this idea's kind of superfluous.
1. On this board, the result is kind of pre-determined. Not that this will make it right. Or wrong.
2. The result won't be the answer, any more than the correct answer to whether U.S. crime rates are higher today than in 1991 can be divined by opinion survey. (Recent Harris poll found 57% of respondents were ridiculously wrong about that.)
3. The categories are rubbery. As if we don't know about the rubbery nature of Covid as cause of death already, still it seems like a piece of cake by comparison. How does one delineate lockdown as cause?
4. Both are still in progress. I suspect lockdown will eventually surpass Covid by millions, but in ways indirect enough to be deniable except to philosophers who can follow all the bouncing, crossing, mutating balls...

Re: Coronavirus Crisis: Main Thread
I would love to see some analysis of the harmful aspects of lockdown that are independent from the belief covid 19 is overblown or a scam, etc.
If one were to accept covid 19 as a legitimate public health concern, it is still reasonable to question the lockdown response; unfortunately, most of what I have seen ties the two together inextricably such that it forces one to choose a side.
Seems to me it's possible to have both a real public health concern and an ineffective/detrimental policy in response.

Indeed, there is a public health concern -- precautions should be taken by all, and guidance/recommendations should be doled out by health authorities -- but the underlying key issue here is the demonstrable devastation to lives, livelihoods, economies and well-being as a direct result of the response to what is, by all objective accounts, a virus that remains slightly more virulent than the flu.
Not only that, but as we're observing, there have been -- and will continue to be -- aggressive affronts to civil liberties and autonomy; increasingly restrictive laws and control mechanisms being implemented and mandates/coercion to track movement, monitor activity and force medical intervention on humans, ostensibly for (once again) a virus with an IFR of ~0.2%.
I return to earlier comments I typed touching on this:

My broad point is those that are at higher risk may opt to take whatever necessary precautions, above and beyond whatever they would normally do. What did we do, as humans, prior to 2020 during flu seasons? Remember, the young are less impacted by Covid than they are by the flu. The very old and already sick have about a ~94% chance of surviving (otherwise they may unfortunately perish of.... old age, or a more serious illness they already had. What can we do to rid humanity of this blight, old age? Would lockdowns help?).
For everyone else, survival rate is over 99.5%. The vast majority that get this virus have: no symptoms; minimal symptoms; mild/moderate flu. A relatively small subset suffer worse circumstances -- the poorer among this segment are less likely to fare well. Outside of this virus, many, many die every year due to other far more serious ailments, or accidents. Sometimes, they die due to less serious ailments, like the standard flu (at any age), among many other examples.
So, once again, we come to proportionality. Or lack thereof.
Entire swaths of humans taken for a ride because their FEARS were triggered at a primal level.
Rationality out the window.

Proportionality. I mentioned this term in a prior posting in a related thread, weeks ago. There is a legal term, proportionality, which essentially encapsulates my position here: "The concept of proportionality is used as a criterion of fairness and justice in statutory interpretation processes, especially in constitutional law, as a logical method intended to assist in discerning the correct balance between the restriction imposed by a corrective measure and the severity of the nature of the prohibited act."

Also:
Flu remains FLAT/non-existent since the onset of Covid, even in regions that have implemented minimal/lax restrictions since the start of 2020.
Why?
"viral interference"? Or perhaps conflation with covid symptoms/death? Or perhaps both, though it's likely this is more about how covid symptoms and deaths have been defined since the onset of this 'pandemic'.

A "probable" Covid case, per CDC - "without confirmatory laboratory evidence"
:

Any of the below can also apply for influenza or related illness:

God forbid someone should disagree with you! If you know what's going on why not just answer the question? I'm sure you have all the relevant research right at your fingertips.
Also: dink is a racist term (fun fact! I've pointed this out to you before), unless you meant "dual income, no kids", in which case you're just being an asshole.
