Their entire first album is as best as best can be. And I would now post "Shadows Breaking Over My Head" if it were on the why-tee, but it's not. But if I were down to my last two options and they were:lightningBugout wrote:best song ever written? perhaps....compared2what? wrote:Pretty Ballerina -- The Left Banke
(1) Decide which of the three songs about Renee on the Left Banke's debut record, Walk Away Renee/Pretty Ballerina* is my favorite; or
(2) Die horribly,
I'd probably select:
She May Call You Up Tonight.
Though in that video, it doesn't sound as good as it really is. Still. I'm just thankful to be alive, to be honest with you.
*The other two being "Walk Away, Renee" and "Pretty Ballerina." Renee was a ballerina, who was also bass-player Tom Finn's girlfriend. Or, more to the point, not songwriter Michael Brown's girlfriend. She was probably pretty, too, odds are.

This one is for vigilant and his most welcome return.
Whatever you think of it, his writings are something else.
I've always felt this song is prophetic;
Peter Gabriel - Here Comes The Flood
When the night shows
The signals grow on radios
All the strange things
They come and go, as early warnings
Stranded starfish have no place to hide
Still waiting for the swollen easter tide
Theres no point in direction we cannot even choose a side.
I took the old track
The hollow shoulder, across the waters
On the tall cliffs
They were getting older, sons and daughters
The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
And as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain was warm and soaked the crowd.
Lord, here comes the flood
Well say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
In any still alive
Itll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, youre running dry.
When the flood calls,
You have no home, you have no walls
In the thunder crash
Youre a thousand minds, within a flash
Dont be afraid to cry at what you see
The actors gone, theres only you and me
And if we break before the dawn, theyll use up what we used to be.
Lord, here comes the flood
Well say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again, the seas are silent
In any still alive
Itll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, youre running dry.
